Did you know that 1 in 5 people over the age of 75 are living with sight loss? The loss of vision is devastating and it can be everyday pleasures that people miss the most. Based within Corrin Court, the Manx Blind Welfare Society has an extensive library of audio and large print books. With more than 4000 titles covering a wide range of genres, the library is provided for free for any individuals having sight difficulties. Audio books are provided as cassettes or we have a growing range of digital titles. We can provide equipment to enable our members to listen to these.
48 per cent of blind and partially sighted people feel 'moderately' or 'completely' cut off from people and things around them, an audio book is one of the things that our members can enjoy without having to rely on anyone else – this independence should be accessible to everyone.
If you are having problems reading due to sight loss, call Manx Blind Welfare Society on 674727 or call into Corrin Court, Heywood Avenue, Onchan

Pat, one of our Librarians has put some considerable effort into producing MP3 Talking Book Summaries. This is an ongoing project and will need continually updating as new books are added to the Library. Work has started on putting these summaries on the back of the books and it has started in the Murder Mystery section.
